Cups, spoons and grams: a quick guide
Recipes from the US use volume (cups and spoons), while most of Europe and Latin America weigh ingredients in grams. A cup of flour does not weigh the same as a cup of sugar, so a good conversion always depends on the ingredient.
- 11 US cup = 236.6 ml; a metric cup = 250 ml.
- 21 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons ≈ 15 ml.
- 31 cup of all-purpose flour ≈ 125 g; 1 cup of sugar ≈ 200 g; 1 cup of butter ≈ 227 g.
- 4When scaling a recipe, add salt and spices gradually and taste as you go: they don't always scale in a straight line.
